Family Promise Senior Case Manager, Erica Ward Cherry, MSW, has been named a 2023 Outstanding Social Work Alumni by the University of Akron!
Erica was awarded the honor by the School of Social Work and Family Services at their May awards program. Erica received her Master of Social Work in 2013 and joined the Family Promise team the same year.
“We have known for a long time the excellent work Erica does for Family Promise.” Said Jeff Wilhite, Executive Director. “It is exciting to see that others, and her alma mater, see the quality of her work and impactful difference she makes in the lives of our families and the interns assigned to FP from the University of Akron”.
Then intern, Brittnee Smith, nominated Erica for the prestigious award.
“When you enter this field, you do so without expectation of receiving recognition. We do this work because we want to improve the lives of those that need us. I am proud to be a graduate of the University of Akron and to be able to serve this community. I am very honored to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award. The most important thing I have learned is to meet families where they are and treat each family with unconditional, positive regard.” said Ward Cherry.
