New Intern Focuses on Trauma Informed Care


Family Promise is pleased to welcome intern, Brittnee Smith, to the team! Brittnee is a senior at the University of Akron, pursuing a Bachelors in in Social Work. She is very excited to be interning with Family Promise of Summit County. Brittnee is a member of the Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society and takes great pride in her accomplishments of the past 4 years. Brittnee is a nontraditional student, as a wife and mother to 3 beautiful children that inspire her daily. She was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and is very excited to be doing her field work in her hometown to help shape a better future for homeless families in this community.


At Family Promise of Summit County, Brittnee is learning how trauma informed case management helps homeless families stay together and achieve sustainable independence. This trauma informed approach involves important factors of assessment, engagement, collaboration, and allowance of self-determination of guests. By working together with families Family Promise has the ability to help alleviate trauma associated with homelessness and assist in securing stable home environment. Family Promise is promoting long term stability of families in summit county by focusing on homeless prevention, assistance during homelessness, and after care services. Brittnee is very happy to be doing her internship with Family Promise of Summit County to help assist with the purposeful vision and mission.
